Newton's Colour Disc

Demonstrating persistence of vision and additive color mixing. When rotated rapidly, the individual spectrum colors blend into white light.

How It Works

The human eye retains images for about 1/16th of a second (Persistence of Vision). When the disc rotates quickly, all 7 spectral colors (VIBGYOR) hit the retina rapidly, causing the visual cortex to sum them into white light.
